Of life, goals, choices and a little flightless bird

I like animation.
A lot.
As a matter of fact, I passed through an animation addiction phase a couple of years ago when I saw thousands of animated films of various genres during which I saw every single animation style there is, from claymation to CGI.
Its been a while since I saw Kiwi!, but yesterday I was driven to see it again.
Its been so long since I last saw Kiwi, but I still love this little 3 minute film.
The reason is not simply that it makes me feel good (although it does) and the animation is visually awesome (although it is). Kiwi is a great video because it fits in with my philosophy that very little in this world is truly impossible, and life is always more about choice than what you are forced to do.
Notice the little thump in the end? Thats the sound of the Kiwi hitting the ground. And that is the most powerful part of the film. The message board of this video is filled with people who hated that thump, which represented that our little hero fell to a gruesome death right after achieving his goal. Change it! Give him a parachute, they scream!
I disagree.
To me, the video is not about hope. The video is not cute. To me, the video is a 3-minute look at a fact of life. This particular fact is not fortunate or unfortunate. But it is true and it is unchangeable and we must accept it.
The fact is: “Very little is truly impossible, what we can do is limited by what we are capable of giving up for it.”
So you want something and think getting it is impossible?
What if it were the single most important thing in your life? What if you decided to live your entire life in the pursuit of that single goal? What if you were willing to give up everything for that single goal?
Would it still be impossible?
Probably not.
The goal is not impossible. But you have other things in your life which you find more important than that particular goal. Thats probably not a bad thing. But its true, and that’s what’s important.
It is a choice. You made the choice of giving up that particular goal in favor of things more important to you. But the goal remains achievable, and someone who is willing to give up more than you for that particular goal will probably achieve it.
Thats just how it is.
PS: If you liked this clip and want me to share more of the greatest animation clips I’ve seen, do leave a comment and let me know.

As you pointed out, it’s always a tough decision between what you want and what you can sacrifice to get that.
Also, I understand why you don’t like the idea of a happy ending to every movie… because you like to keep it real… I couldn’t agree more!!
Nice departure from your light-mood posts. Love this one!
Keep writing!
